SMS sending

The SMS object can be used to send SMS short messages to profiles via the Campaign Designer. This incurs costs according to the current price list.

As a rule, 153 characters are available for an SMS message (153 characters + 7 characters for the User Data Header). When using substitution variables, please note that the number of characters refers to the number of characters finally output in the SMS.

For the SMS function it is essential that a mobile phone number is stored in the profiles.

 

Rights for sending

In order to create SMS objects and send them with Camping Designer, the object rights for SMS and the special SMS sending right are required.

 

Create new SMS object

To be able to configure an SMS sending node in the Campaign Designer, you need an SMS object that contains the message and sender information. To do this, create an SMS object in the Mailing folder: 

An SMS object can be created in the Mailings folder, Templates, or in a folder you create yourself.

 

Configure SMS object

Under the Configuration tab, a text, the sender, as well as a target group for a preview can be specified.

1. Name of the SMS object

2. Personalization variables for the text

3. Here you can enter a text for the SMS (only characters according to ISO-8859-15 are allowed)

4. Here you can upload a text file or enter a URL of a text file to use it as text

5. Name of the sender, max. 11 alphanumeric characters or 17 numbers are possible

6. If the link shortener is activated, all links will be replaced by a shortened URL with the domain https://ems.li. These links then redirect to the original links. This can save characters and costs.

7. Possibility for exporting the profiles to which a dispatch was attempted.

8. Here you can specify a target group for an individualized preview or a test shipment

 

Set field for mobile phone number

In the Settings/Partner apps area, an individual pool field can be specified from which the mobile phone number is to be read out; for this purpose, the substitution variable of the field to be read out must be entered for the respective pool. E.g. for an individual field with the internal name MOBILNUMMER2:

Several fields can also be combined one after the other.

If no field variable is specified, the recipient number is composed of the following fields (default):

Country, mobile area code, mobile number

 

The mobile number must always have the following structure:

Country code + mobile phone provider + recipient number

(e.g.: 0049 171 12345678)

Blank and special characters in the number are automatically removed

 

Incomplete mobile numbers will not be accepted for sending.

• If the number starts with a single "0", the "0" is removed and the country identifier from the Country field is prepended. If no country exists, no dispatch takes place.
• If the number starts with "00", no further action will be taken and the number is allowed to be shipped.
• If the number begins with a number other than zero, no dispatch takes place.

If there is no country code (e.g. 0049 for Germany), the "Country" field of the profile is used as fallback. The following countries have country codes stored in the system:

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Estonia, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Serbia, Croatia, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Oman, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Tunisia, Hungary, USA, United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, Norway.

 

Create campaign

An SMS can only be sent via the SMS object in a Campaign Designer campaign.

An SMS can only be sent via a campaign.

 

If the content of the SMS is longer than 140 characters, it will be divided into several SMS. The number can also vary depending on profile individualizations.
